some people weave burlap into the fabric of our lives,
and some weave gold thread.
both contribute to make the whole picture

cool craft

As the children's "pastor" of our church, I am forever searching for ideas on cool crafts. Not the ones that ultimately end up in the black hole of the trash can, but the ones that kids (and parents) think are so totally awesome they can not find the courage to throw away. So I am teaching our kids about salvation, and wanted to find something that they could make to help them remember the basics of it. We took the tried and true craft of the salvation bracelet, and gave it a little "oomph!". The kids LOVED it! here is what we did...

leather wrist cuffs (purchased at Hobby Lobby, Gods gift to crafters!)
6 different colors of thread (I used embroidery thread)
leather hole puncher
scissors

punch 6 holes (small) about 1/2 inch apart (centered on cuff) at the top of the cuff.
punch 6 holes slightly off center 1/2 inch apart on bottom of cuff.
Cut the thread into 4 inch sections
thread the first color (black) into the first top and bottom holes and tie in back. (cut off excess thread)
then repeat with other colors.

Here is what each color represents:
BLACK- Romans 3:23; "All have sinned." The black thread represents sin which separates us from God.
RED- Romans 5:8; "Christ died for us." The red thread represents the blood Jesus shed when he died on the cross to clean up our sin.
WHITE- Isaiah 1:18; "Though your sins were like scarlet, they will be white as snow." The white represents our clean hearts after Jesus' blood has removed our sin.
GREEN- Galatians 5:22,23; "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control." The green represents the growth in our lives when we start to live like Jesus.
BLUE- Mark 16:16; "Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned." The blue represents baptism and new life. An outward expression to others that you have made the decision to follow Christ.
YELLOW- 1 Thessalonians 4:17; "We will always be with the Lord.." Yellow represents the streets of gold in heaven, where we will always be with God after we die.
